Yoga in the boardrooms, continental breakfasts, drinks at sunset in the staff lounge, a convertible Mini Cooper for weekends away or the Kombi for a surfing trip – it’s all part of Life at Lavan.
This might not fit the traditional image of a major law firm but we believe that our service offering and ability to handle complex and challenging work is enhanced by an environment that is supportive and sociable. We like to share our focus on work/life balance with our clients who often join us for training, yoga or drinks in the staff lounge.
La Van
La Van is Lavan Legal’s customised Kombi.
Built in 1976, the VW Kombi Micro-bus 2L plays an important part in life at Lavan.
Originally purchased to transport documents to court, La Van has become the firm’s mascot and preferred mode of transportation – at least for those that don’t mind a four-on-the-floor gear change. It’s hard to miss La Van’s bright red presence at major community events like the Rottnest Channel Swim.
After a long search, Greg Gaunt and Dean Hely found La Van in Dunsborough. It had been lovingly cared for by the same family since 1986 and was still in excellent condition. After fine tuning the engine, adding the distinctive La Van number plates and a bright red coat of paint, La Van took up residence in The Quadrant car park in April 2006.
Mini
Lavan Legal’s convertible Mini Cooper sits alongside La Van in The Quadrant car park.
Each month, as part of Lavan Legal’s Staff Recognition Program, the Mini along with petrol and parking is awarded to a team member who is nominated by the partners as having made an outstanding contribution to the firm.
If you spot a bright red Mini with La Van number plates on St George’s Terrace, make sure to wave at the driver - they’ve been working hard.

Each year the Lavan Legal Social Club, known as Lavan Leisure, organises social functions and fundraising activities for all staff. Social functions have included a cocktail party for articled clerks and restricted practioners, a Hollywood themed end of financial year party and pizza lunches in the staff lounge.
Many charities benefit from the fundraising activities of Lavan Leisure including Starlight Children’s Foundation, Radio Lollipop and Surf Life Saving WA, as well as the New Zealand Earthquake and QLD Flood Relief appeals.
The Social Club is very proud of its sponsored World Vision child, Sau Theony. Sau was born on 12 February 1999 and lives in Laos. The Social Club has sponsored Sau since 2010 and prior to that sponsored Silvia Tolenta Ombem for more than eight years.
